In the midst of healthcare reform, much of the conversation among healthcare organizations is centered on finances, reimbursements, and the like. It can be easy to lose sight of what we, as a community, are really here to do—make people healthy.

Our goal of making people healthy is more than just physical well-being. It’s about mental, emotional, and spiritual wellness. And, in the era of population health, every facet of a person’s health is important. At SPM, we try to do our part, as a company and as individuals, by providing positive experiences to those less fortunate than us and, hopefully, improving their wellness.

Off The Street Club

In the Chicagoland area, the advertising community supports the less fortunate through an organization called the Off The Street Club (OTSC). Founded in 1900, it is the oldest boys and girls club in Chicago. They serve more than 3,000 kids from the dangerous, crime-ridden West side of Chicago.

For our Integrated Media Director, Mike Lynn, the OTSC hits especially close to home, as he was a member growing up. “I had a great time at the club when I was a kid,” he said. Now, Mike volunteers when he can, and tutors for the OTSC every Wednesday. He called this “plain and simple payback.”

The sentiment around SPM is general agreement with Mike on payback, and so much more. “The kids at Off The Street Club give more back to us than we could ever give them,” said Meghan Clinnin, SPM Account Manager.

We strive to give the children of the OTSC a safe and positive environment outside of their neighborhood, like when we hosted the club for a pizza and movie night on March 3 (see photos here). Events like these are healthy reminders of why giving back to your community is important. SPM is proud, as a healthcare marketing organization, to support charities like the OTSC. It’s just one more way to improve the health of a population.
